Protest groups separated by Sussex Police in Brighton city centre


Anti-government protesters and counter protesters have gathered in Brighton after a campaign publicised on social media.

A groups of protesters holding Union Jack and St George’s Cross flags were separated by police from Brighton and Hove Stand Up to Racism counter protesters holding placards and chanting “go home racists”.

The protests at the Old Steine war memorial on Saturday come after a group, calling itself “The Great British National Strike”, promoted events across the UK opposing illegal immigration and issues including net zero policies.

Sussex Police inspector Ben Morrison said the force would have “appropriate resources in place to manage and engage with any protest activity”.
